This is Anna Schlader who married Christian Pick. Anna Susan Schlader, b.1898 in Eagle Grove, IA. She married Christian John Pick "Chris", b.1896, in 1919 in Eagle Grove, IA. Christian and Anna both passed away in Oregon.
Anna is the daughter of Jacob Schlader and Margaret Michels.

Update, July 2014. Anna's granddaughter, Linda Pick Ulrich confirmed that this is indeed  Chris Pick and his wife Anna Susan Schlader.

Peter A. and Barbara Thielen's first born twins, Christina and Margaret, b.10 July 1913. Sadly, Margaret only lived to be 6 months old. But Christina lived to be 80. Darling little babies.

Pete Schlader, Jr. Wearing the belt buckle off to the side must have be the 'in' thing then. Pete was born in 1907 and he looks pretty young here. Larry (his son) said he thinks it was taken at Pete's in-laws, Alfred and Elma Siegel's house in Bigfork, MN.

 This is Pete Schlader Jr. I'm sure off enjoying the wilds of Minnesota's northland. Pete moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota as a youngster along with his parents, Pete Sr. and Lena, and siblings, Catherine, Hanny, Nick and Milly somewhere between 1915 and 1917. In 1918 another child, Laurine came along and then the youngest, Joe, one year later.

L-R: These are children of Pete Sr. and Anna "Lena" Thielen Schlader:  Pete Jr., Catherine Schlader Jackson, Laurine Schlader Jackson, Johanna "Hanny" Schlader Herschbach, Mildred "Milly" Schlader Matthews and Nick Schlader. I'm guessing this was taken sometime in the 1960's. Pete and Lena had one other son, Joe, who died at age 16, in 1936. Their mother, Lena, died in Oct.1962 and maybe it could have been around that time.

The 4 girls I am not sure of. Peter and Christina's children are: Anthony, b.&d.1867; Anna, 1868-1910; Elizabeth "Lizzie", 1869-1964; Susan 1871-1937; Theodore, 1872-1922; Mathias, 1874-1957; Catherine, 1876-1949; Peter A., 1878-1946;- Nicholas, 1880-1909; Anna Magdalena "Lena", 1883-1962; Mattie, 1885-1885 (I think he died the same year); Christina, 1887-1952; Johnny, 1888-1888.

This is one of my favorite pictures! It is just an old snapshot, but I love all the interesting things in the background and look at the guys sitting outside, hats and ties, playing cards on a board set on their knees. Look at that big pile of wood to keep the house warm and the cookstove going.  Pete Thielen, Hub Herschbach, Pete Schlader, Jr. and Pete Schlader, Sr. Some little guy behind the washing machine-not sure who. I think one of Hubs boys, Roger or Wayne.

3 generation? Who are they?

Cool car!!  What is it?  *It's a 1930 Ford Roadster!* (see below)

 Lena Thielen Schlader and one of her nephews, I'm pretty positive. Most likely her brother Matt's boys or her brother Pete's boys. I will post if I find out.

Intense Guy said- My car buddy thinks this car is an "around 1930 Ford Model 'A' Roadster".

He notes that the distinctive parts are the "arched" headlamp mounting (most other car models are straight across) and the "fake" crank starter hole and the bottom of the radiator grill. Also distinctive is the outside/exposed chrome brace used to hold the "convertible top". The car probably had a rumble seat.

He says Ford used the "wire mesh" look radiator screen in the late 20's and early 30's. He also said that there was likely a rumble seat and on the top picture, you can see the handle to lift up the rumble seat.

The man on the right might be John Reiland, but I don't know who John Reiland is. I am assuming he is somehow related to Nick Reiland, who married Christina Thielen.

Are these Nilles's? Not certain.
A Nicholas Nilles married Elizabeth Thielen (1869-1964), daughter of Peter and Christina (Keppers) Thielen. Elizabeth and Nick Nilles had 13 children:
Lena Nilles, Catherine Nilles, Matthias Nilles, Gertrude Nilles, Mary Nilles, anne Nilles, Margaret Nilles, Elizabeth Nilles, Barbara Nilles, Joe Nilles, William Nilles, Susan Nilles, Charles Nilles.

I'm doubtful if these are Nilles's. It does look like a 4 generation photo.

Which Schlader is this?

I think the license plate has Iowa 1933. Think Nick Schlader is on right. Nick Schlader is the son of Pete Sr. and Lena 'Thielen' Schlader. He was named after his grandfather Nicholas Schlader.
Who is the man on the left? Where was this taken? Does it look like Iowa?

The man lying on the ground is Matt Thielen, 1874-1957. Who are the other two?

 Written on back: Two of the boys aren't on the picture. The outside boys are the ones that are married.
So...5 boys in the family?

Can anyone tell anything about the car? Maybe that might be a clue to the time period.

Are these the same people as in the other photos? Not sure. Is this St. Mary's in Williams, IA.?

I have now determined that this is St. Mary's Catholic Church in William, IA. I know now that 2 of the brides are sisters:
Irene Mary Thielen, b.1915 and Helen Rose Thielen, b.1918. Irene married Clarence Holdgrafer and Helen Rose married Arthur Uthe. I don't know who the other people are.
Irene and Helen's parents are Peter A. Thielen and Barbara Anna Maria Schlader. Peter was widowed by this time because Barbara passed away in 1934, I don't know from what, as she wasn't that old.Pete and Barbara had 2 more daughters who grew to adulthood, Christina and Eva, plus 5 sons. Something I don't think I have come across in this large of a family is that the 5 girls were born first and the 5 sons were born last.  Their father Peter A. passed away in 1946 in Williams, IA. when the youngest was 17.

I thought this was Eva, daughter of Peter A. and Barbara Thielen. She married Frank Marson in 1951 in Mason City, IA.

I am totally confused by this photo. Maybe I am over-thinking this and when I go back and study it more, it will make sense.   Hopefully someone knows who is who. All I know for sure is that the lady who has her face turned is named Eva.
In trying to find a photo of the catholic church in Williams, IA. I came across the history of St.Mary's catholic church in Williams, IA. Interesting. I also saw two surnames familiar to the family tree--Holdgrafer and Nosbisch.
If someone knows my info is incorrect, please-let me know :)

L-R: Father Hayes, a pastor in Duncombe, Iowa for many years, Nicholas Nilles (father of the bride), Kenneth Fetrow (groom), Barbara "Bobbe" Nilles Fetrow (bride),  Lizzie Thielen Nilles (mother of the bride) and Kate Fetrow (mother of the groom). If I understand correctly, the picture was taken in the front yard at Nick and Lizzie's farm that was between Duncombe and Webster City, IA.. Barbara and Kenneth were married in 1934.
